"Every Spring some of America’s finest musicians make their annual pilgrimage to North Carolina. This Documentary (filmed in 1994) was a tribute to and celebration of the 70 year-old tradition. For three days musicians gather (at Fiddler's Grove®) to play and enjoy traditional old-time music, remembering the tunes they learned from their grand-parents and teaching them to a new generation."
This award-winning documentary video, produced by Susan and Donna Campbell of Common Good, Inc., and aired on PBS in its entirety, was chosen as a finalist in the USA Film and Video Festival in Dallas, and was nominated for a regional Emmy award.
In 1996 the U.S. Information Agency translated the "Fiddler’s Grove" documentary into dozens of languages to be broadcast to U.S. State Department offices, military posts, schools and cultural centers in at least 127 countries. The USIA identified the documentary as ideal to beam across the world because it presents the American experience in a positive way. (The USIA, produces and broadcasts "Voice of America" to at least 100 million people each week.) "Fiddler’s Grove, a program about a family that is dedicated to preserving a part of their musical heritage, was a natural selection," says Producer Donna Campbell regarding this worldwide video distribution.
"This documentary ... features the live performance of more than 40 traditional (musical) pieces. Meet the Legendary Van Hoy family, host of the annual celebration. Join the fiddlers, pickers, dancers, and singers for a weekend of pure family entertainment."
